Grace Notes – 05/15/19

It’s easy in our walk with Jesus to get comfortable, in a routine, or feeling settled. Jesus defeating death is a BIG deal, and we are going to spend May talking about what it looks like to respond to the goodness of God’s grace. Jesus calls us to get a little uncomfortable. We are going to embrace the risk together and talk about some of those things that make us cringe a little bit: evangelism (telling the story of why we are Christians to others—gasp!), generosity (yep, a conversation about money), failure (because what is riskier than falling flat on your face), and change (we have a little bit of that in front of us here at Grace!). Discover the joy it is to step into the risk with Jesus at Grace!
Neighboring Study – Tuesdays
Are you curious about what all this Neighboring talk is about? Did you miss Grace’s earlier sessions on Neighboring? Are you interested in knowing more about how God has called us to love our actual neighbors? Then come join us in a 6 week study of The Art of Neighboring, the book that introduced Grace to Neighboring. You’ll learn more about your neighbors, your faith, and yourself. Led by Neighboring Team members Joy Lenz, Roger Moon, and Sparla Dick, this group meets Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30 pm, May 7 through June 11. Child care available, if needed. Contact Joy at jslenz@cox.net for more information.
Called Charge Conference – May 19
We will be having a called charge conference on Sunday, May 19th following worship in Fellowship Hall to vote on the certified candidacy of Charles McKinzie for ministry and updating our membership rolls. Please note that the endowment portion of the agenda has been removed because it was not urgent and it will give Grace more time to solidify the policy adjustments. Bruce Blake will preside. This is an exciting step for Charles in his vocational discernment, and we hope to see you there!
Summer Hours – Begins May 20
Beginning May 20th, our office hours will be 10:00-2:00, Monday-Friday.
Youth Group – May 26
Youth Group will meet on Sunday, May 26th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  Please note the change of date.
Acolyte Training/Review – June 9
There will be an acolyte training/review for all children 1st grade and up who wish to serve. Even if you have done it before, we would like for you to attend this brief session. We will begin right after church on Sunday, June 9th (please note change of date). We should be done in less than 30 minutes. Any questions, ask Pastor Lora or Kathy Baker.

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Charles McKinie and family as Charles has been appointed to be the pastor of Grandview UMC just north of Winfield beginning July 1. It is a part-time appointment and will allow Charles to continue his current job as well. Charles will be going to licensing school as well. We are so grateful for the many ways Charles, Carrie, Cambria, Catriona, and Charlie have led here at Grace and we will enjoy this next month and half with them before we send them on to this new journey!
Because God calls us to care about others:
Missions & Social Justice Team is offering education information about how our faith connects to various social concerns. Each month they will focus on a specific topic and each week will focus on a different faith lens to view that topic. This month is Health Care.

What does the UMC say about Health Care?
The Social Principles of the UMC says that health care is a basic human right, and that ‘health’ is a condition of physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. They state that the stewardship of health is the responsibility of each person to whom health has been entrusted, and that providing the care needed to maintain health, prevent disease, and restore health is a responsibility a government owes to all.
