Grace Notes – 3/21/18

Youth group – March 25
Youth Group meets once a month in Fellowship Hall from 6:30-8:00pm with Pastor Lora and sponsors to learn about God together in a relaxed, fun environment. We have dinner together, activities, lessons, and opportunities to be missional. This is a great place to bring friends and have fun!

Palm Passion Sunday – March 25

For our fourth year in a row, we will celebrate both Palm Sunday and Passion Sunday at Grace. This means the beginning of our service will focus on Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. The children will parade with palm branches and we will sing hosannas! Then we will turn, just as Jesus’s week did, to the cross. We will have four readers share a dramatic reading of the Passion narrative, meaning the story of Jesus’s death. It is a powerful service and we hope you make plans to be with us as we prepare ourselves for the fullness of the story of Christ.

Ministerial Alliance Holy Week Lunches

March 26-30 is Holy Week. You are invited to lunch and worship each day during Holy Week, Monday, March 26, through Friday, March 30. The lunches are sponsored by Ministerial Alliance and will be held this year at the Aviator Church (former First Christian), 904 Alexander, from Noon until 1:00 pm. Each day will feature worship, lunch and special music from local churches. A free will offering will support our local Lodging Assistance program for those without shelter. Please join us!

Doing Good Friday-March 30, 2018

Good Friday is the day in the Christian tradition where we remember the tragedy and sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. He was murdered because of his relentless service toward others and how it challenged (and threatened) the status quo. The cross reminds us to serve others as Jesus did and to share the grace we receive from Christ with others. This year we are going to “do” Good Friday a little bit differently. Instead of having a formal worship service, we are going to spend the day going out and serving others. Doing Good Friday will be our chance to reflect on how the cross shapes our lives while making a difference in our community. We will go from 9am – 3pm, breaking for lunch in Fellowship Hall, and people will be invited to work all day, or just morning or afternoon

Stonecatching Glimpse in Worship

A couple of weeks ago, pink tennis shoe tiptoes led us in the pulpit as our ten year old liturgist read to us the story of the wedding banquet. Hearing the instructions to invite “the poor, crippled, lame, and blind” because it is a blessing and they can’t repay you from Luke 14 is entirely convicting when hearing it from her. She read it with a voice that sounds like it is not such an outlandish idea that all might not only be welcomed to the table but also invited. How often do we throw stones of exclusion that say who is in and who is out? Whose voice matters and whose does not? In a world characterized by these stones of exclusion, who are you welcoming to the table? Who are you inviting? Where are you humbling yourself in order to make room for another? Where might pink tennis shoe tiptoes take your heart this morning? Thanks, Cambria McKinzie, for inviting us to reflect on our ability to be stonecatchers.

This means that she is on call for emergency notifications of tragedy, conversations with people at the jail who need pastoral care, and other pastoral needs in the county. It is an opportunity to serve in the community when needed and available. You’ll also notice in the picture that Julie Lashier is also a Sheriff’s Chaplain. Office Hours Changing

Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) would like to announce that beginning in April, the office will be closed on Tuesdays. After assessing the work load and office traffic, we concluded that closing one day of the week will not hinder the vital ministry of Grace and will allow us to remain good stewards as we continue to assess our spending on a regular basis. Should you leave a message on a Tuesday, the administrative assistant will return your call the next day. Should you need in the building on a Tuesday, please arrange to check out a key the day before. If you have any questions, please contact Lonnie Boyd, SPRC chair.
