Grace Notes – 4/10/19

Palm Passion Sunday!
This Sunday we will celebrate Palm Passion Sunday. The kids will meet in Fellowship Hall before worship to then process in with palm leaves. The first half of the service will be Palm Sunday and Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem. The second half of the service moves into Jesus’s journey to the cross and death with a reader’s theater version of the passion narrative. Music will drive home the message of both movements. This is not a service to miss!
Maundy Thursday – 4/18 @ 5:30pm
Join us for a short communion service during Holy Week. It will be finished by 6:00pm and will be a time to remember the Last Supper together during Jesus’s journey.
Doing Good Friday – April 19

Good Friday is the day in the Christian tradition where we remember the tragedy and sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. He was murdered because of his relentless service toward others and how it challenged (and threatened) the status quo. The cross reminds us to serve others as Jesus did and to share the grace we receive from Christ with others.

This year we are going to “do” Good Friday a little bit differently. Instead of having a formal worship service, we are going to spend the day going out and serving others. Doing Good Friday will be our chance to reflect on how the cross shapes our lives while making a difference in our community.

We will have both morning and afternoon shifts with a variety of projects and lunch is provided. You can come for all day or part of the day!

If you have any questions, contact Missions & Social Justice Chair, Britt Bradley.

Join us for Easter – April 21 @ 10:50am
Easter worship will be wonderful! The music will be grand, the message will be energizing, and it’s a great time to bring people with you! If you are able, it is also a great time to practice hospitality by parking a little farther away than you might normally in order to leave the parking lot spots for guests.

We will be having a Congregational Breakfast Easter morning. Beginning at 9:15 (there is no Sunday School that day), it is a potluck downstairs in Fellowship Hall.  Come and go as you are able, and you are invited to bring something yummy to share! Any questions, see Shirley Booe or Kathy Baker.

This Sunday’s Team Meetings

Grace Kids Accept Bishop’s ChallengeA note from Madison: On Sunday we read the Bible story of the Good Samaritan and talked about our neighbors in Nebraska. We talked about the flooding and what we can do to help after watching this video. We went through a brainstorming process and decided on what we’ll call a “coin challenge!” I sent each family home with a mason jar with “Nebraska Flood Fund” on it.

I challenged the kids to raise $5 each this week, and they decided to go on a coin hunt around their houses, sidewalks, etc. to try to find the money. They also offered to empty out their penny banks, savings, or wallets to give to the fund. I would encourage you to talk to them about it this week and have conversations about meaningful giving.

They have until this Sunday to raise the money! (Of course, if it lasts longer than that we will get the funds to their rightful place). On Sunday we’ll gather all of the money and I’ll count it and post a video update after church on how we did.

Please let Madison know if you have any questions.

Because God calls us to care about others:
Missions & Social Justice Team is offering education information about how our faith connects to various social concerns. Each month they will focus on a specific topic and each week will focus on a different faith lens to view that topic. This month is Mental Health.

What does the UMC say about Mental Health?
The Social Principles of the UMC says that no person deserves to be stigmatized because of mental illness, and pledges to promote compassion and advocate for access to care and eradicate stigma of mental illness within the church and community.
