Keeping Children Safe Event – May 1
The Church and Society Team is hosting an event at Grace on Tuesday, May 1 at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall to learn more about the steps our school district is taking to keep our students safe in schools from gun violence. School superintendent Dr. J.K. Campbell and resource office, Jay Tate, will be joining us.

Our United Methodist Book of Resolutions includes “Our Call to End Gun Violence” where it shares the following: The stunning imagery of Micah’s dream is the transformation of weapons into instruments of harvesting food…God does not collect or hide the weapons from the nations, nor does God transform the weapons outside of human effort…the nations themselves “shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks.” Violence, in so many ways, is filed by fear and self-protection. Iron plows and pruning tools can be used as weapons. Yet, in Micah’s vision, genuine peace and security are given to all people by God after the weapons of violence are transformed: “they shall all sit under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid.” Culture as well as weapons will be transformed: Indeed, “neither shall they learn war any more.” Whether it happens in the towns of northeastern Nigeria, a suburb in the United States, the streets of Australia, or an office in France, gun violence has become an all-too-frightening phenomenon. We need the reality of Micah’s vision more than ever.”

We see part of our answer to that call as learning more about the ways our local reality is shaped by gun violence throughout our country. Please join us as we live out our faith by being informed about this social issue.

District Confirmation Camp

Wichita East and West Districts are joining together to offer Confirmation Camp May 29 – June 2 at Southwestern College. The cost is $210 and meals will be provided by district churches and hosted by our church. If your rising 7th-9th grade is interested, please contact Pastor Lora. If you are willing to sponsor a scholarship for one of our youth to go, contact Lora as well. It is an amazing opportunity to do Confirmation with the connection.
