Grace Notes – 8/22/19

This past Sunday, we began a three week series called “This Is Us.” This will be a three week crash course on the core values of Grace UMC based on our mission statement: welcoming ALL to grow in grace together and to share God’s love on campus, in our community, and in our world. Who has God called us to be? What is our unique identity and mission? How do we share the story of who Grace is as a church? Commit to being with us for three weeks to learn about this place called Grace. It is the perfect time to invite some friends, reach out to someone you haven’t seen in awhile, or to bring a neighbor with you.

August 19th – Missional
Check out what we did this Sunday:
Grace is a church whose core identity is to be missional—to exist for the sake of those outside our walls. We celebrated Education Sunday with a back to school blessing for our students, teachers, staff, and partner school of Irving Elementary. The children invited  us into mission with the Third Sunday Mission Offering for Irving. The choir kicked back off with an incredible song, and Allison Hughes moved us all to tears with her Glimpse of Grace as we celebrated our mission of sharing God’s love on campus, in our community, and in our world.
August 26th (This Sunday!) – Welcoming
Grace is a church who believes everyone is created in God’s image. We will study the story of Jesus calling even the tax collectors and sinners to follow him. The expansiveness of Jesus’s calling reminds us that each and every one of us are created with a unique set of gifts and Jesus shares with us his unconditional love. As a church we strive to welcome, include, and advocate for ALL people regardless of ability, race, age, gender, socioeconomic status, sexuality, ethnicity, or political affiliation. On this day, the choir will be singing “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman and we will celebrate the responsibility and gift it is to be a church full of quirky, eclectic, arms-wide-open people who learn to love one another as Jesus loves us all. Joe Kinney will share the Glimpse of Grace testimony and you won’t want to miss it.
September 4th – Grace-Filled
Grace is a church that lives up to its name. Our mission statement reminds us of our commitment to grow in grace together. We will study the scripture where the disciples ask Jesus how many times they should forgive…seven times? Jesus gives them an answer that seems hard to live up to! But it is a reminder that to be in community we have to be people of grace. Come find out the gift of community and how to live out relationships rooted in forgiveness.

Choir is Back in Full Swing!

Calling all people interested in serving God by using your musical gifts!!!! Chancel Choir meets Wednesdays from 7-8pm. Childcare provided. If you’d like to join the choir you can talk to McKenzie Wheeler, Pastor Lora, any of the choir members, or simply show up on Wednesday! The choir sings every Sunday and adds so much to our worship service. Thank you to all who use their gifts this way!

SC Foster Parents

THANK YOU!!!!!
We have an incredible thing to celebrate. Last year we had 26 foster students. This year we have 53 foster students matched! We are working on matching the last group of students and would love to offer any other interested students the opportunity to be paired with a Winfield family. This year we are partnering with the softball team, cross country team, theatre freshmen, and Grace also has a special relationship with the volleyball team. That is a total of 74 students connected to Grace through these activities. What a gift to Winfield and to these Builders!

If you’d still like to sign up, here is more information:

Would you like to connect with a college student this school year to help them feel at home in Winfield? We need you! We want to be the best neighbors to SC as we can. Due to the success of our foster program in the past, it keeps expanding! We currently have more students than foster parents, and we’d like to be able to find families for all of them. It involves reaching out to them, going to dinner or inviting them over, joining other foster families for a potluck, attending their events on campus to support them. If you’d like to help change a student’s college experience, reach out to Deb Helmer! Also – do you have a neighbor or friend in town who you think might be a good foster parent? Will you ask them to consider it or tell us the name and we can reach out to them? Thank you!
