In December 2015, our church answered Bishop Jones’ invitation to formally vote to be a church who is welcoming to refugees. Our council unanimously voted to be supportive of refugees in any way that is needed.
In 2016, we made one of our goals to be taking tangible steps to put that commitment into action and have been committed ever since.
We have worked with the International Rescue Committee based in Wichita, KS to create Welcome Kits to help families who move to Wichita have more things in their home without having to use their refugee settlement funds or IRC funds to make sure their new homes are ready. We also make homemade laundry soap for IRC families, and we keep the supply stocked throughout the year.
If you or your family would like to personally make a kit, you are welcome to bring your completed kit to the Grace office and our missions team will deliver it to the IRC. Below you will find their most needed kits and required items:
- Kitchen Starter Set: Stock Pot, Large Saucepan, Large Frying Pan, Mixing Bowls, Can Opener, Set of Kitchen Utensils, 2 Hand Towels, Pot Holder, Knife Set/Knife Block
